Comanchero looks good for Tomorrow

PACE WORK was the order of the day at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, yesterday morning, as trainers took things easy with racing just 48 hours off. But Comanchero looked very full of himself in his gallop over 600 metres in 44.93 seconds. Premier Attraction who holds the engagement in tomorrow’s opener on Day 8 of the Arima Race Club season, was a trifle quicker in 44.91 seconds for a similar gallop. And the seven-year-old full brother to Arts And Lovers, Piece Of Cake was also seen enjoying himself as he paced 600 metres in 44.84 seconds. This Harriram “Pepsi” Gobin-trained horse with the light impost of 45.5 kilos, looks set to make them all step in the feature Restricted Handicap over 1350 metres.

Bold Fapp was cruising on the bit in his run over 400 metres despite clocking a modest 29.71 seconds. The Douglas Bennett-trained Chavez looked good in a fluent run over 800 metres in 55.90 seconds, best time of the morning over this trip. Up Above was steady over 600 metres in 44.98 seconds, and these two should give a good account of themselves in the 1100 metres race for three-year-old maidens. Meanwhile, young apprentice Sheldon Rodrigo was fined a total of $150 for twice failing to report to the starter. On the first occasion in Race 9, Rodrigo was fined $50, and he was made to pay $100 the second time around in Race 10. And jockey Jody Arneaud also felt the iron fist of the stewards when he was fined $250 for breaching Rule 49.
