Arts And Lovers looks unbeatable

IT would take something of an electric train to beat Arts And Lovers in this year’s Trinidad Trophies Limited Trophy Ibis Stakes for fillies over 1350 metres at Santa Rosa Park, Arima,  on Easter Monday, March 28, Day 9 of the Arima Race Club season. Harold Chadee’s champion two-year-old, not seen out since destroying five rivals in the First Citizen Bank First Classic over 1100 metres on New Year’s Day, left no doubt over her form with a sizzling 1000 metres gallop yesterday morning.

The daughter of Freshly Squeezed/Sizzling, pulled out of the Soca Monarch  sprint on Carnival Friday Lime programme, February 4, when discovered to have a slight bruise, covered the trip effortlessly in one minute 02 and a bit seconds, and looked very full of herself at the finish. And Chadee has enlisted the services of ace Canadian-based Trinidadian jockey Emile Ramsammy to ride the filly in classic. But Monday’s race will not have just onefilly, as the impressive Flying Millie and Hollywood Heidi for which a penalty was paid to get into the race, hold the engagement in the race which carries a total purse of $50,000.

Turfites should see a rousing finish for the winner’s purse in the other three-year-old classic, the Trinidad Trophies Limited Trophy Flamingo Stakes for colts and geldings. Should all go to plan, Crown Point, Prince Charming and Flying The Flag should be the trio disputing the finish. Feature event on the day’s ten-race programme the Stechers Limited Trophy Arima Race Club Handicap looks like a match-race between Fantastic Story and Sugar Mike, who is also returning after a long rest period. Monday’s ten-race card is chock full of what looks to be some very exciting races, and a bumper holiday crowd is anticipated.
