ASJA boy spins out North-East Under-17s

LEFT-ARM spinner Nicholas Ramdhanie (six for 12) produced a sterling performance as Central Zone bowled out North-East for 79 on the opening day of their Unit Trust Corporation Under-17 Inter-Zone match at the Presentation College, Chaguanas yesterday. Ramdhanie, of ASJA Boys College, Charlie-ville mesmerised his counterparts with an impressive spell of spin during his ten-over spell.

Medium pacer Bimal Govinda bagged three wickets for six runs from five accurate overs. Only Kevin Cooper (17) and Anthony Balgobin (23) made any impression. Persistent showers stal-led play at 4 pm and Central reached 29 for the loss of one wicket. According to Central’s coach Ronald Lutchman, rain affected their chances of striving for first innings lead. “Our plan was to bat once and try to bowl them out twice. The bowlers did an excellent job especially the captain (Nicholas) Ramdhanie. He is a very good spinner and I am hoping that he can continue to get wickets. I feel he has a good chance to get into the Trinidad and Tobago Under-19 team.”

“If the rain didn’t fall, we were aiming to overhaul their score and that would have given us enough time to play for an outright victory. Providing there is no rain in the morning, we are hoping for an early start, at 9.30 am. We have players with the ability to do well but as the saying goes, it’s how well you play on the day.” Central Zone finished runners-up to North last year.
