Political patronage

THE EDITOR: On Feb 29, 2005 the PNM held a retreat at the Chancellor Hotel, St Ann’s. This I am sure surprised the PNM followers. For obviously the PR person of the PNM did not know that the Chancellor Hotel is owned by Dr Tim and Mrs Gopeesingh/Shandeleer family. Returns for political patronage have gone on for years in all parts of the world and Trinidad and Tobago are not to be excluded. Surely a more appropriate venue could have been chosen with a little more research. Dr Tim Gopeesingh is an official of the UNC (Opposition) and though he may appear to have a foot as well in the PNM camp it still is not sensitive to deprive a PNM supporter of a “return.”
