Vision 2020 is a joke!

THE EDITOR: Imagine my joy, when yesterday, after nearly two years, I received in the post a refund cheque from the Board of Inland Revenue (BIR) with respect to my 2003 Tax Return. Imagine my disappointment when I realised that the words on the Central Bank issued cheque did not match the figures, and that my bank would not accept same for deposit.

Imagine my exasperation when today I am reliably informed from a source at the BIR that there are over 3000 such “bad” cheques issued and that I must call back on Monday to find out when I will be receiving a new refund cheque as a replacement. Where, I ask myself, are the “checks and balances” that should have prevented these cheques being sent out in the first place? I suppose I should not be surprised at the incompetence at the Tax Office and the Central Bank as it would appear its “par for the course.” Incompetence at WASA, the Fire Service, the Hospital, the Education Ministry et all!! Starts from the very top. Vision 2020? What a pathetic joke.
