Fit Pollock rearing to go
ALL-ROUNDER Shaun Pollock looks set to return to the South Africa team for the third Test of the series against the West Indies starting at the Kensington Oval in Barbados tomorrow. The experienced seamer has arrived in the Caribbean after being forced to watch the first two matches from home as he received treatment on an ankle injury. However the 31-year-old is now ready to make his comeback in Barbados as the Proteas, who lead the home side 1-0, look to clinch the series with a win at Bridgetown. “I am feeling fine and I’m feeling fit,” stated Pollock. “I’m ready to play and perform for the team.
I believe I can last an entire Test match, so I’m hoping the guys put their confidence in me. I’ve got a few days training and see how it goes,” Pollock said. The former South African skipper will certainly want to be selected to play in Barbados having scored a century on the previous tour to the West Indies. “We played nicely in Barbados the last time and the team is 1-0 up so the guys should be feeling pretty confident.” While the tourists have one seamer returning, the hosts will have to do without one of their own after Pedro Collins was ruled out of the Test with a back injury. The left-armer’s absence is likely to open the door for Fidel Edwards to return to the line-up, while Ryan Hinds should also be recalled after missing the contest in Port-of-Spain due to illness.
