No quorum for ARC management AGM

THE Arima Race Club management committee annual general meeting has been put back one more week. The meeting was scheduled for yesterday, but had to be called off because of a lack of a quorum. The new date set fot the AGM is Sunday. Meanwhile, the ARC are gearing up for Saturday’s “Fans Appreciation Day” at Santa Rosa Park, Arima. Feature of the day will be the “Grooms Derby” for which entries close with Selwyn Raymond at the offices of the Betting Levy Board on Wesnesday at 9 am.


To date, nine grooms have taken entry to this flat race which is to begin from the starting stalls at the 1600 metres marker on the turf course. The entrants will draw for starting positions also on Wednesday and the grooms will be boxed in a la the horses. Winner of the Grooms Derby will receive $300, with prize money going to the first six to finish the race. According to a source, attempts will be made to have betting taken on the race.


Those to have taken entry so far are: Eustace “Stonewell” Roberts (Humming Bird Stables); Anthony Dexter Jeremiah, Leon “Cowie: Angnoo, Richard “Rambo” John (all John O’Brien Stables); Harrilal “Kenny” Harry (Grant Lourenco Stables); B “Bobby” Singh (Derick Mosca Barn); Michael Vernon Perry (Ryan Shim Stables); Robert Lochan (Rohit Dube Stables); Alban “Teegray” Bristol (Walter Debysingh Stables). Of note to turfites is that Joshua Stephen has been adjudged the apprentice to have ridden the best race on the last three occasions. He won the $100 award on March 28 for his ride on The Chairman, then repeated on April 2 astride Silver Bullet and took the Littlewoods Foods Limited prize money on April 16 riding Condoleeza.
