Fire, N/East look to close gap
CALEDONIA AIA/FIRE and North-East Stars will seek to close the gap between themselves and leaders W Connection when the seventh round of the T&T Pro League takes place. Connection, who is atop the seven-team standings with 18 points, will have a bye today and Fire, who is second with ten points, can reduce the deficit to five points with victory against Defence Force at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella. The Fire lads, coached by Jamaal Shabazz, have won three out of their five games this season while the youthful Army/Coast Guard combination, under second-year coach Kerry Jamerson, is in fifth spot with five points from four games.
Defending champs North East Stars are in third spot with seven points after five games and, even in the absence of leading striker and captain Jerren Nixon, will be going all out for full points against the inexperienced United Petrotrin at the Palo Seco Recreation Ground. In the day’s other clash, CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh, who have had a stuttering start to their campaign, will oppose Tobago United at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima. All matches will kick off at 4 o’clock with the exception of the Marabella matchup, which will get going from 7 pm.
