Beenhakker calls up 23 overseas pros

COACH Leo Beenhakker has called 23 overseas-based players to joining his squad in preparation for the rest of the World Cup campaign. And the players called must be in camp by the weekend of May 22-23. But before this there will be a camp between May 16-18, ahead of Trinidad and Tobago playing Panama at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on June 4. Among those called up are Brent Rahim, goalkeeper Kelvin Jack, Ian Cox and Avery John.

Beenhakker after announcing the names of the overseas players said, “we obviously want to have a chance to look and work with all the players before we get the final team together. “The first couple weeks should allow us a chance to assess what there is here in the home league, and then we will go about seeing wht the other guys from the outside leagues have to offer.”

The full list of those called up is: Rahim, Jack, Cox, John (A), Marvin Andrews, Collin Samuel, Jason Scotland, Shaka Hislop, Clayton Ince, Dwight Yorke, Hector Sam, Dennis Lawrence, Carlos Edwards, Derek Phillips, Leslie Fitzpatrick, Marlon Rojas, Cornell Glen, Silvio Spann, Brent Sancho, Stern John, David Nakhid, Kenwyne Jones, Chris Birchall. Meanwhile, Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation technical director Lincoln “Tiger” Phillips said Anton Pierre should not be discouraged by his omission from Beenhakker’s squad. He pointed out, however, the door is not closed on the Defence Force defender or any other player.
