Castagne, De Montbrun take President’s Cup
JUSTIN CASTAGNE and Lise De Montbrun, sailing on an MR-15 dinghy, captured the President’s Trophy as the Trinidad and Tobago Sailing Association (TTSA) 2005 season continued. Rupert Grimshaw, sailing aboard Merlin, was second while C-Mos, skippered by Jose Mosca was third and James Arrindell’s Jahaji Bhai was fourth. In the Optimist Dinghy class, Stuart Leighton prevailed, ahead of Wesley Scott and Matthew Scott. Patrons of the event were His Excellency, President George Maxwell Richards and his wife Dr Jean Ramjohn-Richards.
The President, who kept his promise of going out on a sail boat (under captain Paul Hatch) during the event, stated: “the sport of sailing imparts its participants with courage, sportsmanship and creative thinking, which can all be used outside of the world of sailing, making them better citizens.” President Richards also boasted that, for the 2006 version, he will be back in the waters again, not as an onlooker but as a participant. Meanwhile, the highlight of the TTSA season, the annual Angostura Tobago Sail Week, will get going today at Store Bay in the sister isle Tobago.
