Champs Comets beaten in Fruta Twenty/20
NEWLY crowned Carib National Cricket League Division 1 champions Alescon Comets were beaten by 14 runs by PowerGen in a thriller as the Fruta-sponsored Twenty/20 Cricket Festival got underway at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva. PowerGen raced to 211 for six wickets from their 20 overs in Wednesday night’s match, with Rishi Bachan hitting a topscore 63 not out, including four sixes and two fours, while Samuel Badree scored 51, with three sixes and three fours and David Williams 41, with four sixes and two fours. But when the champions replied, Badree snapped up three wickets for 36 runs while Dave ‘Tadpole’ Mohammed got two for 13, despite a determined 96 by Chris Magram who hit nine sixes and three fours. Badree was later named Man of the Match. In the other game, W Connection Wanderers led by a whirlwind 68 from Williams Perkins who struck six sixes and two fours, rattled up 196 for four wickets off their 20 overs then restricted Joe Public Munroe Road to 148 for seven wickets for a 48-run victory. Apart from Perkins who was later named Man of the Match, Brent Lezama got 42 and Timmuy Surujbally 37 for Wanderers. Best scores for Munroe Road came from Jairaj Dilraj 37 and Anil Barlo 35.
