Connection, Jabloteh, D/Force in Pro Bowl semis

W CONNECTION, CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh and Defence Force all moved into the semi-final round of the 2005 T&T Pro League Pro Bowl competition with contrasting victories on Friday night.

In the quarter-final triple-header at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella, the reigning champs Connection eased past North East Stars 2-0, Jabloteh trounced Caledonia AIA/Fire 4-1 while Defence Force edged United Petrotrin 2-1.

In the evening’s opener, Defence Force went ahead through a 43rd minute own goal, while striker Kevon Carter doubled the advantage in the 80th. Midfielder Kelvin Hernandez pulled one back for Petrotrin in the 86th but the Army-Coast Guard combination held out for the win.

Connection needed no such drama against North East, as striker Andre Toussaint got a double (15th and 28th minutes) to guide the "Savonetta lads" to victory.

Fire, who were expected to pose a major threat to Jabloteh, suffered major setbacks in the first half, as they conceeding three goals within a 20-minute span. In-form midfielder Otis Seaton (Aurtis Whitley) gave Jabloteh a 14th minute lead, while striker Devon Mitchell found the target in the 23rd and Seaton netted his second in the 34th.

Forward Abdullah Phillip trimmed the deficit to 3-1 in the 74th but Travis Mulraine ended all hopes of a Fire comeback with a 90th minute strike.

The semi-finals will be contested Friday at Marabella.
