Merry crushes rivals in golf trials
SIMON MERRY crushed all his rivals in the boys’ 18-and-under category, as he won by 12 strokes in the 2005 National Junior Golf Trials yesterday. Despite overcast conditions at the St Andrew’s Golf Course, Moka, Maraval, Merry, who have represented Trinidad and Tobago in both the junior and senior regional tournaments, finished the two-day trials with a one-over-par 145. Merry, who returned scores of 76 on Saturday and 69 yesterday, was also chosen on the 14-member team which will defend their Caribbean Junior Championship trophy in the Dominican Republic, from July 3-8. Joining Merry on the national squad are Robert Llanos, Shane Costelloe (boys’ 16-18), Diana Torry, Tracey Clarke (girls’ 16-18), Ben Martin, Kyle Knaggs, Glen Charlett (boys’ 13-15), Martine De Gannes, Kelsey Lou-Hing (girls’ 13-15), Timothy Martin, Joshua Galt (boys’ 12-and-under), Monifa Sealy and Anneke Ward (girls’ 12-and-under). The reserves are Jonathan Low, Victoria Seenath, Jake Maingot, Catherine Clarke, Blaine Winford and Natalya Rahamatula.
