‘Howling Jumbies’ win Lucozade Sport Adventure Race
THE team ‘Howling Jumbies’ , including Erle Rahaman-Noronja and Ian Chadwick were adjudged the winning team in the Lucozade Sport Adventure Racing series which took place over the weekend and attracted a total of 45 teams. The teams were present at Mosquito Creek as the race started promptly at 7 on Saturday with a water start. The first leg of the race required teams to kayak up the Godineau River and portage their kayaks through a dirt trail before re-entering into another tributary of the Godineau River and continue kayaking to the Sudama Facilities on Pluck Road. At that point they collected their bikes and made their way through canfields first on bikes and then on foot searching for the precious "markers" that they desperately needed to successfully complete the course. Then up to the very top of San Fernando hill before finishing the race at Palmiste Park. The course took competitors paddling through both sea and river for eight kilometres, the portage section was one kilometre then there was a 25 kilometres riding and seven kilometre trek through cane fields and mountains for a grand total of 41 kilometres of pure off road adventure. The winning team "Howling Jumbies" completed the course in 5hrs 34mins — just minutes ahead of teams "Nature Valley" (Robert Sharpe and Raymond Ramcharran) and reigning champions "the same ting!" (Nina Chaves and Sean De Freitas). All finishers received medals and winners of each category received trophies, vouchers courtesy Corkie’s Cycle Centre and hampers from Old Spice.
