No change in CFU teams ranking


PORT-OF-SPAIN: There is no positional change in the ranking of Caribbean Football Union (CFU) teams for May, as the 25 CFU teams averaged only marginal movement on FIFA’s world list released yesterday. Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz, the reigning Caribbean Cup champions, edged one place up FIFA’s list to be 41st, to stay a clear CFU number one over Trinidad and Tobago at 62nd in the world, and Cuba (64th).


In a month of few internationals, the CFU’s fourth-ranked Haiti were actually the world’s biggest movers in the past month, climbing five places up to 87th. The remainder of the top-10 has St Kitts and Nevis, 120th in the world, in sixth position, followed by Barbados (122nd) seventh, St Vincent and the Grenadines (133rd) eighth, Grenada (148th) ninth, and Suriname (151st) 10th. Reigning CONCACAF Gold Cup champions Mexico moved one place up the world rankings to seventh in the world to retain the top position in CONCACAF, ahead of the USA, 10th in the world, Costa Rica (21st), Jamaica, Honduras (50th) and Guatemala (60th), with Trinidad and Tobago seventh in the confederation. The Brazilians remain solid at number one in the world, with the Czech Republic in second, Argentina third, and France fourth. The Netherlands are fifth, followed by England. (CMC)
