Hanif Abraham: Family man, auto racer
SELF-proclaimed family man Hanif Abrahim is no stranger to the local auto racing circuit. This married father of two who hails from Central Park in Couva has been directly involved in the sport for the past 20 years. After studying at the Technical Institute, he went on to work for 18 years in the automotive industry, holding down various posts including workshop and field operations, customer service and new-staff training. He is currently employed as the Berthing Officer at Plipdeco and is climbing a continuous steep experience curve in this heavily-regulated environment.
He however still manages to attain black belt certification in Shotokan style karate. “Alongside everything else, I have maintained an avid interest in fishing, karting, boating, horticulture and, of course, cooking,” Abraham told Newsday. “My direct involvement and structured development in motorsport circuit racing began in 1985 and was able to attract sponsors for car #14 in the likes of Robby’s Engineering and MOBIL 1, thereafter climbing the ladder to TEAM TCM where a new race car will debut — the Nissan Pulsar GTI-R.”
The TTASA Management team has also been able to utilise Abraham’s abilities in the position of honorary treasurer. Abraham will be among the field competing in the inaugural annual signature endurance race on Thursday May 26 at Wallerfield Race circuit. The race is held under the auspicies of the Trinidad and Tobago Automobile Sports Association (TTASA) and the Trinidad and Tobago Cancer Society.
