Drifters by one run in Tyro cricket

DRIFTERS scored a nail-biting one-run victory over Poison, to move into a three-way tie for the lead in this year’s Tyro Sports Club Windball Cricket League. After being restricted to 56 for seven wickets by Michael Solozano who took four wickets for nine runs. Drifters in turn put the clamps on the Poison batsmen who reached 56 for seven when their 20 overs ran out. Trevor Robinson took three wickets for seven runs and Riaff Ali three for 13, Despite Solozano completing a gallant all-round performance with 12 runs for Poison. Drifters joined United Progressors, seven-wicket winners over Blanch Street Youths and the idle Tyro all on 24 points each.

Now with just three more matches to play, the men’s league winners could come from the top trio, with Five Rivers Artilleros who whipped Jaggan United by 11 runs, having an outside shot.  They are on 18 points with a game in hand. Rebirth, with Gail “Garner” David scoring 27 not out, Karen Tull 19, Ann Marie Roberts 15 and Gilliam Mason 14 reached 93 for four wickets then restricted St Vincent Street to 72 for seven for an 21-run victory to join Desert United and Die Hard on six points eachat the top of the women division. But the Desert United women have played one game more than their opponents.
