Merry takes Tobago Golf title
LEADING national junior golfer Simon Merry walked away with the Guardian General Tobago Open crown, at the Tobago Plantations Golf and Country Club yesterday. Merry shot a round of 72 to finish the three-day tournament on 213. Another top local junior Shane Costelloe was next with 217, followed by dethroned champion Carlos "Sexy" Baynes 218 and Dion Gonsalves 227. Costelloe, Baynes and Gonsalves all had rounds of 73 yesterday. Diana Torry led from start to finish in the women’s section, carding 72 yesterday for a tally of 225, followed by fellow juniors Martine De Gannes 234 and Victoria Seenath 243. Siron Melville claimed the Men’s First Flight trophy with a combined score of 242, while Fitz Neptune was the runner-up with 244, Richard Lara 251 and Nigel Aqui 262. With a score of 232, former national footballer Ray Roberts captured the seniors category while Steve Attin was a distant second with 252. And Roger Hamel-Smith was a comfortable winner in the super-seniors division with a tally of 235, while Roger Grell was second, eight shots adrift.
