Trini tolerance
THE EDITOR: Trinidadians are a tolerant lot. One morning we hear that Salvatori is to be demolished. A barrier thereafter goes up in the middle of the road restricting the flow of traffic in an already difficult thoroughfare and inconveniencing a multitude of pedestrians. This has been going on for at least three weeks and there is no immediate sign of let up. So my questions for UDECOTT and their Canadian age-nts are as follows:
Why has there not been a public notice prominently in the newspaper providing a timetable for the duration of the inconvenience to the public. Is it going on last six weeks or six months? Why not get a police presence at critical points to direct traffic especially at peak period? Given the tremendous resources put into fencing off the site why not consider a temporary overhead walkway from the middle of the promenade over the Cipriani Round-about and into the western pavement of Frederick Street to protect pedestrians who have to fight up with cars to get into Frederick Street, the main thoroughfare into the city. The public needs information and assistance in this critical exercise. The message that seems to be coming from persons in charge of this project is that every man must fend for himself since we have an important job to do. Can we get some feedback from the authorities.
