No just TT — No peaceful TT

THE EDITOR: The almost irreparable state of our country will continue its spiral downwards because of the severe injustice meted out by our leaders. When you have a 17-year-old youth with a driver’s licence of four months driving dangerously on the Toco Road killing four innocent people and not going to jail, what is justice, what is Justice Alice Yorke Soo Hon telling all drivers? Who can assure us that Brian Browne will not get behind the wheel again in the next ten years? Meanwhile, Justice Anthony Carmona accepts a majority not-guilty verdict for a 47-year-old father of two who was accused of having sex with a 10-year-old girl and fathering her baby two years later. Was a paternity test done before the not guilty decision was made?

That was not mentioned in the report. Continuing on that note, a father was sentenced to only ten years for having sex with his three daughters, fathering a child with one of them. When he comes out of jail after such a short period, who is going to protect his granddaughter/daughter from falling victim to the same fate? A 20-year-old man admitted to the police that he strangled his 24-year-old common-law wife after she told him she was leaving him for another man, the judge ordered a probation’s officer’s report reflecting the views of the man’s relatives as well as members of the area where the couple lived.

What are the chances of the relatives and neighbours saying ill about this man if the couple never quarrelled or fought at home? (Remember this argument that led to murder took place far from where they lived). How much of what the relatives say will influence the judge’s sentencing decision? Given the reports cited above, I am almost disappointed already.
