WIPA concerned with review team

WEST Indies Players’ Association president Dinanath Ramnarine has expressed his concern with the make-up of the committee selected to review the sponsorship negotiations by the West Indies Cricket Board. The WICB announced the appointment of a spnsorship negotiations review committee to inquire into the award of the master sponsorship contract to Digicel, and allegations surrounding the award. But while Ramnarine indicated his association’s intention to cooperate with the inquiry, he pointed out that the persons selected are associated with the board’s code of conduct, disciplinary, and the finance and audit committees.

He said he would have preferred some discussion between the board and WIPA on the selection processs. Ramnarine said: “This could give the impression that what is being undertaken is an internal review by the board and not an independent inquiry.” He said: “WIPA have total confidence in Justice Anthony Lucky whose love for the game and passion for justice and fairplay are well known. “We are confident that he would understand and take into account our views.”

And he reiterated, “WIPA will cooperate fully with, and are prepared and willing to give evidence or provide information to the committee. “We have complete confidence in the panellists named by the WICB for this present sponsorship negotiations review committee.” Meanwhile, WIPA expressed gratitude to First Citizens Bank for sponsoring their second annual awards function, along with the contributions of hosts Supreme Ventures and TCL Group of Companies.
