Six held with guns, ammo
SIX people, including a 21-year-old woman, were held at their Egypt Village home in Point Fortin yesterday, and are now facing charges of possession of guns, ammunition and drugs. A suspect was also held in connection with the murder of Vitalis De Couteau-Abraham, who was killed on June 3 at Reservoir Hill, Point Fortin. According to a police report, a party of police officers from the Point Fortin Police Station swooped down on a house at Reservoir Hill, Egypt Village, just before daybreak yesterday. The police team was led by acting ASP Braithwaite of the South-western Division and supported by Insp Wells, Sgt Flanders, Cpl Oliver, PCs Banga and Garroway; WPCs Maloney and Paul. They are all police officers attached to the Siparia CID Task Force and the Marabella-based Crime Suppression Unit. On executing a search warrant at the house, police reportedly found three guns — a revolver, a pistol and a shotgun. Ammunition, including six 9 mm rounds, and one round of 12-gauge cartridges, were also discovered during the search. The police party also searched and found 17 grammes of cocaine and 24 grammes of marijuana. Six persons who were in the house at the time of the raid — five men in their early 20s and the 21-year-old woman — were arrested. Police said the owner of the house was not at home at the time. A warrant has since been issued for his arrest. The police exercise continued in the district and 12 other persons, including the murder suspect in 35-year-old Couteau-Abraham’s killing, was also arrested during the police exercise. De Couteau-Abraham’s body was found around 6 am on June 3 in some bushes just off the main road at Reservoir Hill, Point Fortin. The body bore a single gunshot wound through the mouth. De Couteau-Abraham was described by police as a drug addict and one who roamed day and night in Point Fortin.
