Twelve new buses to hit roads today
The Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) is promising an improved bus service for commuters, as it has acquired 12 new buses providing a total of 1,800 spaces — both seated and standing. During the last few weeks, there have been complaints from commuters about the unreliability of the bus service. They have argued that the buses were usually late and, when they were able to get on a bus, they would experience "shutdowns" causing more delays. The PTSC, in collaboration with the Ministry of Works and Transport, will today commission the 12 new buses at its South Quay premises in Port-of-Spain. The buses are expected to be put into operation before the end of the month. Each bus has the capacity to accommodate 65 seated passengers and 85 standing passengers. The buses, which carry a Volvo chassis and a Caio body, were acquired in Brazil and will be operated on the East/West corridor and the North/South route.
