Manswell faces debutant in Fyzabad

TOP local boxer Kertson Manswell will take the ring tonight in what will be his fourth fight as a professional boxer.

He faces debutant Theophilus Blue of neighbouring Barbados at 8 pm at the Fyzabad Labour Day Festival.

Manswell, the powerful Tobagonian, only just returned home from a two-month training stint in the United States where he disappointingly missed out on a bout with a top Mexican fighter.

Strangely the fight was scheduled to be the undercard to a well promoted Felix Trinidad fight in Las Vegas, but the fighter never showed up. Today at 10 am the fighters will weigh in at the Tigers Boxing Gym on Prince Street, Port-of-Spain.

The fight will be the feature battle on the night Kirt Sinnette and Barbadian Ricardo Kellman square of in a scheduled six-round bout.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Mickey Richards also have a date with Shawn Corbin of Guyana in a four rounder, while a battle between Guyana’s Iwan Assore and John Trotman of Barbados is also listed. Kevin Placide, popularly known as "The Fighting Policeman" will need all the ammunition at his disposal, when he takes on a skilful Julien Tannis of Barbados in another four round bout on the night.

Fans will also see the return of Kim "Bonecrusher" Quashie as she comes up against another local girl Lynette Shade in a four-round bout.

That fight will follow another between Michael Springer and Barbados’ Michael Pitman, while John Monroy and Alwyn Guy will square-off in the lone all-local bout of the night over four rounds.
