Shakes goes to Swindon Town
ENGLISH-BORN midfielder Ricky Shakes will join English League One team Swindon Town on a free transfer on July 1. Shakes, who failed to make the Trinidad and Tobago Under-20 team for the recent CONCACAF U-20 World Championship qualifiers, was previously at Bolton Wanderers in the Premier League. But the 20-year-old Shakes was loaned to Bristol Rovers from February until March, and also had a spell with Bury FC in April and May. According to Swindon’s coach Andy King, "he played for the reserves at the end of last season and did well and he is someone who I have been after for a little while. "He did well when he was on loan at Bury last season and can also play out wide or up front, so could be a good addition for us," King added. Shakes, whose mother Leonora is Trinidadian, is a utility player who can feature as a defender, midfielder or forward.
