A traffic solution

THE EDITOR: Since the Solomon Hochoy Highway was built some 30 years ago, a lane at the intersection of the San Fernando bypass and the Tarouba Link Road was never commissioned. Mayor Ian Atherly recently commissioned this lane to allow traffic to turn right into Marabella. The lane is now closed following investigations by the Traffic Management Division which concluded that the traffic lights had increased traffic congestion.

This means that motorists once again have to drive to the Cocoyea roundabout and turn onto the bypass. It also means the return of illegal U-turns at the St Joseph Village turn-off. I would like to recommend a simple solution in the construction of a roundabout at this intersection, instead of the existing traffic lights. With the roundabout the traffic would be able to filter in, as opposed to coming to a complete stop when the traffic light is on red.
