Homeless man killed in PBR accident

A HOMELESS man died on the spot after he was struck by a red-band maxi-taxi while he was attempting to cross the Priority Bus Route (PBR) in Tunapuna on Saturday night. According to police reports, the homeless man who was identified as Ramkissoon “Deo” Khelewan was attempting to cross the PBR from north to south near Centenary Street, when the maxi-taxi knocked him down.


Khelewan lived outside the Tunapuna Community Centre near the PBR with his nephew. Police sources said the two were well known in the area and they shared a cardboard box, which was their bed. Following the accident, the body was removed to the Port-of-Spain Mortuary, while police took a statement from the driver of the maxi-taxi. An autopsy is expected to be carried out tomorrow at the Mortuary. Cpl Pilgrim of Tunapuna Police Station is continuing investigations.
