Ramdin aims to keep WI spot
DENESH RAMDIN, the Clico Preysal Under-19 wicket-keeper/batsman, who has been selected on the West Indies team to tour Sri Lanka is keeping his focus and hopes to help the regional team back to the top of the cricket world. The young talented cricketer was congratulated yesterday on his recent selection at a function held at the Sir Frank Worrell Cricket Development Central, Balmain, Couva organised by the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board. Ramdin, who recently trained under the supervision of former West Indies opening batsman, Gordon Greenidge said he was happy to get a big break in his career. "I plan to make the best use of it," he said. He captained the Under-19 West Indies in Bangladesh at the World Championships when they placed second. Ramdin said he remained composed when he got information that he was being considered for the team and when he heard about having a blazer and other gear, he knew that he had made it. "All I want is the support and prayers of my country and the entire West Indies and I promise to perform at the highest level," Ramdin said. Being the youngest member of the team going to Sri Lanka holds no terrors for the level-headed player. "While this would put a bit of a strain on me I will give this opportunity my best shot so that I will become a permanent fixture on the side," he said. Ramdin said he was looking forward to the tour with great eagerness as some of the world’s best players are on the Sri Lankan team. "While some fans are claiming that we may be on the way up, we need a greater sense of determination and some luck if we are to come out victorious," he said. Ramdin thanked all those who have been responsible for his success so far and promised to do his best to justify their faith and confidence in him. He also thanked the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board. "The board gave me many opportunities to be selected on a West Indies team and I will use this chance to play hard so that they will all be proud of me," Ramdin said. "It is a tremendous learning experience for me and I hope to benefit as much to develop my game," he said.
