Tobago team heads Super League

ANGOSTURA 1976 FC Phoenix jumped to the top of the Sportworld Super League standings with a 2-1 triumph over Stokely Vale FC at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet on Sunday night.

Phoenix have won both their matches to date, and lead Superstar Rangers on goal difference, with the Rangers outfit being the only other team with a 100 percent record.

But defending champs Joe Public were unable to maintain an early lead as they were held 2-2 by Couva Players United at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Tunapuna.

At Bacolet, Dominique Kerr put Phoenix in front after 54 minutes, while Gary Bruce doubled the advantage seven minutes later.

Warren Phillips reduced the gap to 2-1 with an 83rd minute but it was a little too late for Stokely Vale.

Meanwhile, at the Marvin Lee Stadium, ex-national midfielder Lyndon "Chubby" Andrews put the "Eastern Lions" Joe Public ahead in the 25th minute before Anthony Thompson levelled the scores in the 32rd.

Andrews was again on target in the 50th but the hosts were unable to sustain the momentum, as Kirwyn Jackson got the equaliser for Couva in the 87th.
