Under-18 b-ballers get ready


TRINIDAD and Tobago Under-18 basketballers are rounding into their best form ahead of the seventh edition of the Confederation Junior Basket-ball Championships to be held here from next Saturday.


The youngsters whipped Cosmic Raptors 65-60 in their Supligen North Zone Basketball League Open Division match at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo on Wednesday night.


It was their second straight victory, behind Jamille King’s 28 points which included four three-pointers and Kerry McMillan 15 with three from beyond the arc.


The Under-18s trailed 13-14 at the end of the first quarter, but had a big run in the second, outscoring Raptors 16-5 for a 29-19 half-time lead.


Raptors piled on the pressure in the third period and outscored the youths 17-15, but were still behind 44-36.


The made a desperate 7-4 rally in the fourth quarter but still came up short.


Travis McIntosh had 14 points for the Raptors.


Champions Defence Force shot down And 1 Trailblazers 74-56 to soar to the top of the First Division with a 4-1 record in the six-team standing.


The Army-Coast Guard men were ahead 26-17 at the end of the first period and lengthened their lead 42-26 at the half.


At the three-quarter stage it was game over with Defence Force leading 60-46, and they never relented.


Dennison Charles hit 16 points and Stephen "Lighter" Lewis had 12 including two three-pointers for Defence Force, while


Cornelius Cain led Trailblazers with 16 points and Pascal Solomon added 11.
