$10M FIRE GUTS KC’s Couva warehouse
A FIRE of unknown origin completely destroyed KC Confectionery Warehouse along the Southern Main Road, Couva, late yesterday evening. Losses are estimated at more than $10 million according to fire officials. Neighbours said the fire started around 5.30 pm and when the Fire Brigade units arrived shortly afterwards the blaze had engulfed the building. A large crowd of curious people gathered on the scene as the blaze could have been seen from a long distance away with thick black smoke rising skywards. Owner of the premises, Imran Khan, was deeply involved with firefighters who tried their best to control the fire, which was still burning furiously up to 7.45 pm. Neighbours were trying to wet their premises for fear that the blaze would spread. Fire fighters from Couva, Chaguanas and San Fernando arrived on the scene but their efforts could not contain the blaze which was fuelled by cardboard boxes stocked in the warehouse to export confectionery.
