Aranguez kidnap victim escapes

ARANGUEZ kidnap victim Krishna Dass is today a free man after escaping his kidnappers on Saturday evening, by untying himself and running through the Maracas Bay forest to safety.

According to reports, around 4 pm police officers under Sgt. Bridgenarine Chatoo and PC. Cassie were on mobile patrol along Grand Fond Road, Maracas Bay when a man motioned their vehicle to stop.

Dass identified himself and told the police that he had been kidnapped the day before and explained how he untied himself and ran for hours through the forest until he came to the road.

Dass, who the police said, appeared to be healthy except for few minor bruises to his mouth, hands, and feet was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was treated and given a clean bill of health.

The businessman, 41, was kidnapped on Friday night around 8.45pm while liming outside his Queen Street, Aranguez home by four men who pulled up in a car, fired several shots in the air and dragged him away. The abductors had demanded an undisclosed amount of money, jewelry and drugs for his release.

Dass, a father of one, recalled that his abductors were outside what appeared to be a hut. He said he was able to untie himself, sneak out through the back and escape. When Newsday visited the family home, relatives refused to be interviewed.

Sgt David Abraham is continuing enquiries.
