Windies ‘A’ aim for series victory

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka: West Indies "A" will be trying for an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the second unofficial, four-day "Test" against Sri Lanka "A" which opens at the Colts Cricket Club Ground tomorrow.

West Indies dramatically claimed their opponents’ last five wickets for just three runs, and grabbed a 57-run victory at Dambulla to take a 1-0 lead in the three "Test" series.

Windies "A" captain Daren Ganga described the victory as a brilliant team effort and is looking forward to the second "Test"

"The manner in which Sri Lanka started on Saturday, I thought they played positively and looked assured of what they were about," he said.

"We wanted to pick up more wickets on Saturday, but it didn’t happen for us. It didn’t happen even in the first session of the final day.

"But we had faith. Cricket is a game where you get one wicket and two wickets will come with it."

Ganga was pleased that the fast bowlers had made an impact on the pitch on which the first Test was played.

"The pitches we were expecting we thought the spinners would have created a lot more impact in terms of the opposition," he said.

"But our fast bowlers have looked the part bowling in the right areas.

They were also aggressive. It is a good sign for us in the future, and in terms of the other games that we have on tour. I am sure they will grow from strength to strength."
