Rain washes away Optimist sail
PERSISTENT morning showers stole the show as the 2005 Optimist North American Championships continued at Store Bay yesterday. Such was the extent of the elements that today’s scheduled Rest Day has been cancelled, to cater for the backlog of events from yesterday’s Team Race programme. Following yesterday’s delayed action, 16 teams will feature in today’s final rounds, including Trinidad and Tobago ‘A’, who finished third after five events with 310.5 points.Peru who have been one of the dominant countries at the week-long competition, lead the way with 284 points. Their ‘A’ team is well ahead of Bermuda ‘A’, who have a tally of 302, while TT’s ‘A’ team, who defeated Argentina 23-13, is in third spot. The United States ‘A’ team is fourth with 329, followed by Brazil’s ‘A’ 334, Argentina ‘A’ 394, USA ‘B’ 417, USA ‘C’ 492, Mexico ‘A’ 579, Bermuda ‘B’ 607, France ‘A’ 723, Chile ‘A’ 871, Puerto Rico ‘A’ 888, Canada ‘A’ 940, Dominican Republic ‘A’ 1,116 and Barbados ‘A’ 1,140.Trinidad and Tobago’s ‘B’ squad were beaten 25-12 by Canada in the first round.And all 16 qualifying teams will feature in elimination events today to crown the overall team champions.
