Nath brothers rescued in Enterprise
A LARGE contingent of police officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, the Anti-Crime Unit, the Crime and Intelligence Unit, and Central Division yesterday swooped down on a shack at McCarthy Trace, Enterprise, in Central Trinidad and rescued kidnapped brothers Richard and Ronald Nath. Four occupants of the house ages 47, 24, 19 and a 20-year-old woman were arrested. A .38 revolver loaded with three rounds of ammunition was seized. The Nath brothers who were bound and gagged with duct tape in a bedroom of the shack, were rescued by police and taken to their family doctor where they were treated for dehydration and mosquito bites. The brothers were then reunited with their father Donald and mother Sumintra at their Sangre Grande home. Reports revealed that officers acting on a tip-off went to several homes in Manzanilla on Saturday night where they detained five suspects in connection with the kidnapping. Based on key information received, the officers went to McCarthy Trace, Enterprise, around 2 pm yesterday where they surrounded a wooden shack and rescued the Nath brothers. Police now have 11 persons detained in connection with the kidnapping of the Nath brothers. Fingerprint experts and officers of the Crime Scenes Unit went to the shack yesterday along with a police photographer and carried out investigations. Residents of McCarthy Trace where the brothers were being kept told police officers that they never knew that the men were being kept in the house which is surrounded by tall bushes. They said that they saw no suspicious activities at the house. Relatives of the brothers told Newsday that while Richard and Ronald appeared to be traumatised, they were in good health. Immediately after their arrival home, the men were taken to a room where prayers were recited. The brothers then had a bath and were given a home-cooked meal. Both Donald and Sumintra shed tears of joy when they were reunited with their sons. Police officers confirmed that a ransom was paid on Saturday to the kidnappers. The brothers were kidnapped last Monday. Officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad are investigating.
