TT U-18s win in Carib b-ball

TRINIDAD and Tobago Under-18 basketballers were looking for their second win of the tournament as they faced Antigua and Barbuda at the University of The West Indies Sports and Physical Education Centre, St Augustine Campus, yesterday.

The local girls on the other hand were still hoping to get their first win of the tournament, as they squared-off with Barbados at the same venue from 6 pm.

The girls encounter was the first match of a double header and it followed another at 8 pm with the boys in red, white and black.

Only Sunday evening the Trinidad and Tobago boys got the better of the Barbadians 65-52 in a crucial contest.

The local lads had earlier lost to the United States Virgin Islands in a close contest before they rebounded to the victory.

Virgin Islands are unbeaten to date along with the powerful Puerto Ricans, whose girls disposed of the Trinidad and Tobago by an embarassing 87-33 margin in their first match on Saturday.

The local girls then beatenby the Virgin Islands 61-54, a results which left the Trinidadians desperate for a win after three games in the tournament. Earlier yesterday morning, the Bahamas boys took advantage of a weak St Kitts/ Nevis outfit in the opening game of the third round to romp to an 73-51 victory, to keep on the heels of leaders US Virgin Islands.

The Puerto Rican girls also made light work of Bahamas 88-55 in another early game yesterday, while the US Virgin Islands humiliated a winless Jamaica 76-40.

US Virgin Islands continued their winning ways when they clobbered the Barbados 90-66 in a boys early afternoon game.
