Lauding Lloyd Elcock
THE EDITOR: I congratulate Justice Lloyd David Elcock LLB, LLM (London University) Barrister-at-Law and currently lecturer in Church History at Kairos Institute, on the recent publication of his treatise, Loving Jesus, the first of a trilogy. Justice Elcock has authored a book that is captivating, persuasive and instructive. He exalts the "seekers of truth," so that their hearts, minds and experiences can be attuned to this compelling narrative. Erudite as he is, he looks at history with the rigour of a scholar, but lucidly explains it with the skill of a gifted teacher, and brings into focus that "something" that is so much a part of us, and that so many seem to be unaware of. Written in a language that is exciting and lyrical, he takes the readers on a journey into the remote past, his lively prose breathing life into the realities of his diligent research. The book reveals the wisdom we all possess but incapable by many to utilise; and, should be regarded as a wonderful opportunity for us all, to raise the level of our consciousness to a better comprehension of the sacred and that Universal, Supreme, Divine Intelligence: God. Justice Elcock in Loving Jesus illuminates the path to a more rewarding life of hope, forgiveness and freedom, a life that is powerful beyond measure. Justice Elcock seems to have been pre-destined to accomplish this masterpiece of penetrating depth and brilliance. His life as a boy can attest to this. I had the good fortune to be Lloyd’s teacher at age ten or thereabout, I had been very familiar with the home environment in which he was being nurtured. The other siblings also come under my tutorage but there was something about Lloyd that made him special to all of us, his teachers; his beautiful, smooth dark complexion, always very focused and meticulous, unobtrusive, the epitome of integrity and gentleness. His brilliance in English (Grammar and Literature) was far beyond his age and he mastered the art of narrative/descriptive writing, which came out in his essays. Lloyd was "teacher’s pet." Lloyd grew up in a very religious and "Christ Loving" home and it is to the credit of his parents (now deceased) that they exposed their children to every church in Woodbrook where the words of God were being preached. Staunch Anglicans as they are, the children attended every Sunday, Methodist, Pentecostal, Presbyterian churches, Ebenezer Gospel Hall in Woodbrook. Lloyd as a growing and developing individual, knew the Bible from cover to cover, small wonder then that he was so strong in essay writing. And in my view, he stands "tall" among the best writers and essayist of our time (Read his book for "style"). After graduating from Queen’s Royal College and during his sojourn abroad, he never abdicated the deep and indelible impact of his nurturing and earlier upbringing which continued to be the essence of his being; in addition, as a preparation for his preordained mission, he pursued an area of academic studies and training appropriate for this purpose (logic, syllogism etc). At the "spiritual level" he distanced himself from the mundane, and focused on that which bordered on the "divine" to satisfy that inner hunger and longing, and he has patiently and prudently prepared himself to complete the mission he was ultimately to accomplish.
