Martin, DeGannes win 13-15 Div
Trinidad and Topbago Junior Golfers Ben Martin and Martine De Gannes were crowned champions in the boys and girls 13-15 age bracket at the 18th Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championship in the Dominican Republic yesterday. And with impressive performances coming from Shane Castelloe, Diana Torry and the rest of the team, it assured Trinidad and Tobago the team title at the end of the play-offs. Trinidad amd Tobago ended the overall team events 28 points, accumulating eight points on opening day and 10 on each of the last two days. Martin who held a three shot lead entering yesterday’s final day, shot an impressive 75 to pull away from his closest rival, Cayman Islands Johnnie Widmer. He totalled 221 after three days well ahead of Widmer. Countryman Kyle Knaggs ( 235) finished fourth position, while Glen Charlett was 10th. Martine De Gannes shot an 83 yesterday to finish on 253 after entering the final day tied for third. Kelsey Lou Hing also of Trinidad was second after shooting a 92 for a 259 total. Shane Castelloe (228 ) will return home as third best in the region in the Boys 16-18 division, although he had an impressive 76 yesterday. He entered the final day in second behind outstanding Scott McDougall of Bahamas. Compatriot Simon Merry finished one shot behind him on 229. Robert Llanos finished eighth on 237. In the Girls 16-18 age bracket, Diana Torry managed a 78 to claim the runners up spot on 242 to Samantha Widmer, of Cayman Islands, while Tracey Clake was fifth on 251. In the Boys 12 and Under age-group, Joshua Galt was second when he shot a final day 85 to finish on 243, while Timmy Martin was third on 244. In the girls equivalent, Anneke Ward finished second while Monifa Sealy was 9th.
