Police detain Super League rivals


POLICE took full advantage of a major slip-up by Superstar Rangers to claim pole position after seven rounds of action in the Sportworld Super League competition.


At the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet on Wednesday night, the lawmen earned a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Stokelyvale.


Kayode Legall gave the hosts a fifth minute lead before Kelon Williams equalised in the 10th, with Kareem Joseph notching the winner for the Police outfit in the 17th. Police, who have now won six games on the trot, are the new leaders with 19 points, followed by Crab Connection on 17 points, Superstar Rangers on 16 and 2004 champs Joe Public on 14.


The Crabs secured second spot after a hard-fought 3-2 victory over PLIPDECO Caroni in the second match of a doubleheader at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Tunapuna.


Kyle Cupid opened the scoring for Caroni in the 18th minute with forward Marlon Warner levelling the scores in the 27th. Cupid restored Caroni’s lead in the 35th before veteran Warren Butler equalised in the 65th. And Warner’s 80th minute item proved to be the winner for Connection.


The Crabs have now won four matches on the row while Caroni have now lost three straight.
