Breakfast Shed to share site with fast food outlets
Stall owners at the Breakfast Shed are upset because they will have to share the relocation site with other fast food outlets. One of the stall owners told Newsday that they believed that the relocation site was for the Breakfast Shed alone. “Udecott (Urban Development Company of Trinidad and Tobago) came and told us the plan, but some of us couldn’t believe that,” one stall owner said. Udecott was commissioned by the Government to construct the new $1.2 billion waterfront complex which hopefully would be the new headquarters for the FTAA (Free Trade Area of the Americas). The waterfront site would included a 22-storey building, parking facilities, recreational facility and a tower.
Ten of the stall owners remained to accept the relocation site which is at the eastern end of the project at the Brian Lara Promenade. Five stall owners took the compensation package and left after 30 years at the Breakfast Shed. The ten stall owners are also trying to source funds which amount to $409,000 to pay legal fees to attorney Kenneth Munroe Brown. The stall owners said they were willing to pay Brown but not what he was asking. Last week Udecott CEO Winston Agard confirmed that the stall owners were given their cheques and the relocation site would be completed in two months.
