Bronze for Bledman in IAAF 100m

KESTON BLEDMAN collected Trinidad and Tobago’s first medal at the 4th IAAF World Youth (Under-18) Championships in Marrakech, Morocco, yesterday, with bronze in the boys’ 100 metres final.

Bledman who had earlier won both his first round and semi-final races, was among the pre-race favourites. Drawn in lane four, the 17-year-old crossed the finish line in 10.55 seconds, behind the Great Britain pair of Harry Aikines-Aryettey (10.35) and Alex Nelson (10.36). Kervin Morgan will be involved in today’s boys’ 400m final after he placed second in the third of three semi-finals in a time of 47.91 seconds.

While Morgan will face the starter’s gun in lane seven today, fellow 16-year-old Ade Alleyne-Forte was eliminated after placing seventh in the second semi in 49.92. And Jamaal James will also be aiming for a medal, in today’s boys 800 metres final.

The lanky 16-year-old erased his personal best time which he set on Wednesday in yesterday’s semi-final clocking one minute 51.47 seconds. James was third in his semi and progressed to today’s decider as one of the two "fastest losers".
