Superstar Rangers handcuff Police 2-0

POLICE stay atop the standings in the Sportworld Super League was in jeopardy up to press time last night after they were blanked 2-0 by former leaders Superstar Rangers at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, yesterday. With that result, the winners of last night’s fixture between defending champs Joe Public and Crab Connection, at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Dr Joao Havelange Centre of Excellence, Macoya, Tunapuna, will go to the top of the table, but a draw will give “The Crabs” the lead only on superior goal-difference.

The prolific Rangers striking pair of Akudu Goodridge and Todd Ryan were again on the scoresheet, with Goodridge finding the back of the net in the 21st and Ryan in the 80th. WASA Clean & White secured a comfortable 3-1 victory over the second-from-bottom Maraval Youth Academy at the Trinity College Ground, Moka, Maraval. Keon Hernandez gave WASA a 23rd minute lead before Shaton Ollivierre equalised in the 79th. But WASA will complete the win, courtesy of late strikes by Keston Thomas, in the 83rd, and Darren Lewis in time added. Angostura 1976 FC Phoenix and PLIPDECO Caroni played to an exciting 3-3 draw at Canaan, Bon Accord, Tobago, with Hayden Moses converting an 88th minute penalty to earn a share of the points for the Tobagonians.

Lejandro Williams put Phoenix in front on the half-hour before Caroni responded through Hayden Vincent in the 42nd, and a Ryan Dipsingh penalty 10 minutes later. Dominique Kerr tied the scores in the 68th but Caroni seemed to secure a win when Kyle Cupid put them 3-2 up in the 72nd.  But their defence failed them in the dying stages, and Moses slotted home his penalty with two minutes remaining. Stokely Vale got their second win of the season when they trounced table-proppers Media 21 FC 5-2 at the Mt Hope Junior Secondary School Ground, while Couva Players United took care of another mid-table squad, M&M Harvard, 4-2 at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva.
