Atapattu taking no chances with Windies

KANDY, Colombo: Sri Lanka captain Marvan Atapattu will not allow complacency to overcome his side in the second and final cricket Test against West Indies that opens today.

Sri Lanka twice dodged the bullet in the opening Test at Colombo’s Singhalese Sports Club, where they completed a six-wicket triumph to take a 1-0 lead in the two-Test series.

In the first innings at the SSC, Sri Lanka recovered to limit a spirited West Indies to a 58-run, first innings lead, and in the second innings, they fought back after they slumped to 49 for three to formalise the result.

"We do not want to be over-confident," Atapattu told reporters on the eve of the Test at the Asgiriya Stadium.

"We will play it like it was an important Test match, and we’ll play to the best of our abilities.

We hoping to play positive cricket, and get another result in favour of us."

The ground, located in the heart of Sri Lanka’s rolling hill country, has been the venue of some horrific accidents that led some to believe there is a "Kandy Hoodoo."

"We have also had some good memories at this ground too, and hopefully this match will be no different," Atapattu said.

Strangely enough, Sri Lanka have won only four and drawn five of their 17 Tests at the ground, where hometown boy Muralitharan has snared a phenomenal 81 wickets at 18.33 in 12 matches.
