Villagers console murdered ‘PH’ driver’s family

SCORES of residents from Pepper Village, Fyzabad, flocked to the home of murdered "PH" driver Denis Seeteram yesterday to bid him a final farewell.

Seeteram was shot in his head and his car ploughed through a villager’s house when he was hijacked by two men while he was plying his car for hire on Tuesday night.

The car ended up hanging from the other side of the house. However, the hijackers jumped out of the car before it crashed. Seeteram, 31, lived with his parents, Hetty and Boyzie, a customs officer, and four siblings at Pepper Village.

During an emotional service yesterday, family pundit, Artma Maharaj, called on villagers to give support to the family in their time of mourning.

"You may have lost your son. But you have not lost support from villagers. It is your (villagers’) support that will give the family motivation to move on," he said.

Pundit Maharaj, who is also Seeteram’s cousin, said Seeteram’s tragic death had plunged the entire community into sadness.

"To have somebody’s life snuffed out of them is really difficult. Let it be a lesson to the younger ones to love their parents because tomorrow is very far away," he added.

Seeteram’s friends and relatives broke down in tears as they placed roses on the body in the casket, while others commented on the level of crime in the country.

Senior Custom’s employee, Dave Ramkhelawan, expressed his condolences to his colleague, Boyzie, and his family in speech and song.

Following the service, Seeteram’s body was cremated at the Shore of Peace, Mosquito Creek.
