Crabs claw Harvard 3-1 to remain top
CRAB CONNECTION maintained their slim lead atop the Sportworld Super League with a comfortable 3-1 triumph over M&M Harvard in the rescheduled ninth round of matches yesterday. The Crabs clawed their way to the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva, and got early strikes from Ricardo Bennett 6th and 20th minutes and Jason Sampson 35th, while Marvin Lee got Harvard’s consolation on the stroke of half-time. But in the biggest shocker of the day, WASA Clean & White inflicted a 5-2 mauling on former leaders Police at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella. Kirth Hutchings netted in the 17th and Darren Lewis 21st to give WASA a 2-0 advantage before Richard Roy reduced the lead with his 23rd minute goal. But WASA’s attack kept on flowing, with three goals in the space of nine minutes by Kevon Henry 45th, Joel Daniel 51st and Brian Bain 54th, with Neri Joseph’s 74th minute strike too little too late for the lawmen. The "Eastern Lions" Joe Public, with strikes from Devon Caseman in the 38th minute, Roen Nelson 79th and Wolry Wolfe 89th, climbed to second place after whipping Angostura 1976 FC Phoenix 3-0 at Canaan, Bon Accord, Tobago. Superstar Rangers moved up to third following a narrow 1-0 win over the cellar-placed Media 21 FC at the Mt Hope Junior Secondary School Ground, with captain Colin Roberts scoring the only goal of the match in the 9th minute. PLIPDECO Caroni withstood a late scare from Maraval Youth Academy to prevail 2-1 at Gilbert Park, Couva. Nicholas Benjamin broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute while veteran midfielder Marlon Minguel extended Caroni’s lead in the 87th. Clinton Corbin reduced the deficit for Maraval a minute later but the hosts held on for full points. In the day’s other fixture, Stokelyvale got a late surge to defeat Couva Players United 4-2 at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet, Tobago. Anthony Thompson put Couva ahead after two minutes before Kayode Legall replied in the 5th, but Jason Marcano restored Couva’s lead in the 57th before striker Michael Carrington got the equaliser in the 77th. Kerron Phillips gave Stokelyvale their first lead in the first minute of time added, while Carrington completed the win two minutes later.
