Thousands pack Tobago
Over the past few days Tobago seemed to have doubled its population as thousands of visitors flocked to the island for the long emancipation weekend. With the island buzzing with activities from Great Race and Great Fete to the Tobago Heritage Festival closing ceremony on Emancipation Day, the police and Defence Force also reinforced its manpower.
A squad from the Trinidad Guard and Emergency Branch arrived on the island to assist the local authorities and maintained constant guard at the Plymouth Jouvert celebration yesterday morning which was part of the village’s Tobago Heritage Festival production. A Senior Scarborough CID officer told Sunday Newsday that thanks to the help of their Trinidad counterparts, they had the situation under control. The Annual Carib Great Race competition returned to its original date after being changed several years ago, merging sports enthusiasts with the multitude of young partygoers who gather on the island for the now annual Great Fete weekend.
