Truck driver dies in crash

A 26-year-old truck driver was killed instantly after the vehicle he was driving overturned on the M2-Ring road, Debe, South Trinidad yesterday. According to reports, at approximately 11 am, Amzard Latiff, of 129 Scotts Road, Penal was proceeding in a westerly direction when, on rounding a sharp bend, the vehicle skidded and crashed in a ditch on the opposite side of the road. The Nissan dump truck, TAW 7337, overturned and pinned Latiff underneath.

His body was discovered after the driver of another truck assisted police in lifting the overturned vehicle back onto the roadway. Grieving relatives, who arrived at the accident scene, sobbed quietly as Latiff’s body was removed. Latiff, who was married to Nandanie Ramjattan, was the father of one and half-year-old twin boys, Rasheed and Shaheed, and a 6-month-old baby boy, Raseed. Cpl Martin of the San Fernando Traffic Branch is continuing investigations.
