Diego woman dies from crash injuries
A 22-year-old woman who suffered multiple injuries when her car crashed into another vehicle in the vicinity of Victoria Gardens, Diego Martin last month, succumbed to those injuries at the Intensive Care Unit of the Port-of-Spain General Hospital (PoSGH). Rachael Watson, an accountant, of Canna Road, Victoria Gardens, never regained consciousness after the crash. Reports revealed that around 1.50 am on July 9, Watson was driving her Renault car, proceeding west along the link road between the Diego Martin Highway and the Diego Martin Main Road, in the vicinity of Victoria Gardens, when she came into contact with another vehicle PBJ 4196, travelling north along the Diego Martin Main Road.
Watson lost control of her car which crashed into the Victoria Gardens Sineage. Watson’s almost lifeless body was removed from the mangled wreckage by fire officers who rushed to the scene. She was taken to the PoSGH and warded at the Intensive Care Unit. She died on Thursday. Yesterday, distraught relatives described Watson as a good person who had a bright future. They added that she was a very careful driver and they never expected her life to be snatched away so early. Watson’s funeral will take place tomorrow.
Watson’s death pushed the road fatalities to 108 for the year so far, compared with 120 persons who died in accidents during the same period last year. Yesterday, ACP Mobile Nazamul Hosein called on members of the public to exercise caution when travelling on the roadways. He said that the loss of lives can be avoided. PC Ian Charles, of the Four Roads Police Station, is investigating.
