Jamaica, TT struggle in U-19 cricket
KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent: Trinidad and Tobago, replying to Jamaica’s 75 all out, reached 30 for four at the close on the rain-hit opening day of the first round of matches in the TCL Group Under-19 cricket tournament at the Stubbs Ground yesterday. Play never got underway until 1.48 pm after heavy overnight and morning rain left the ground impaired. But when it did get started, wickets tumbled at a rapid pace with 14 falling for the day. The Jamaicans found Sunil Narine almost unplayable as he ripped out seven wickets for 18 runs while Rishi Bachan took two for 30. But the Trinidadians fared just as badly with Andre Russell taking two wickets for 11 runs. At Sion Hill, Leeward Islands sent in by Guyana, reached 107 for seven at the close of a game also hit by rain. And at the Arnos Vale Ground, Windward Islands, sent in to bat by Barbados, reached 85 for five at the close. Summarised scores: JAMAICA 75 - Zaniffe Fowler 11, Sunil Narine 7/18, Rishi Bachan 2/30 vs TRINIDAD & TOBAGO 30/4 - William Perkins 19 not out, Andre Russell 2/11. LEEWARD ISLANDS 107/7 - Jacques Taylor 43 not out, John Luke 25 not out, Javal Hodge 11, Ryan Hercules 3/12 vs GUYANA. WINDWARD ISLANDS 85/5 - Heron Campbell 19, Lauron Francois 18, Andre Fletcher 18, Andre Gill 2/19 vs BARBADOS.
