Cyclist Costa set for a three-peat

THE STAGE is set for the Computer Power and Supplies Cycling National Championship Time Trial at Saaman Park in Chaguaramas.

The race pedals off at 7.30 am and some of the country’s top cyclists will be on show on Sunday.

Among them will include the impressive Guy Costa who has been the holder of the national championship title for the past two years. He intends to secure his third title.

Costa who rides for Rafmon Mecalfab, will however have his work cut out if he is to retain his crown. The talented Costa, who is born in the United States, but has been residing here Trinidad and Tobago, is popular and respected for his ability over the long distances.

He faces a tough field which includes David Alves, the first winner of the Rituals Tour de Cafe which was staged from the Starlite Shopping Plaza, Diego Martin in June.

Sunday’s race will be the first of three which will all be contested over the following weekends.

Colin Wilson, the emerging talent of local cycling will also be among the competitors, as well as the Stephen Mangroo who rides for Team Testi Cicli.

The determined Shan-non Metivier of Madonna Wheelers is also in the mix. He holds a slim advantage having won gold medal in the national points race earlier this year.

Another pedal pusher anxious to prove his ability is Elijah Greenealong with Roger Smart of Trinity Wheelers, Adam Alexander and veteran cyclist Gene Samuel.

Joshua Alexander who was the runner-up in the event last year will be hoping to move a notch up.

The event will also feature a ride for the Masters 60 years and over.
